Das damals an der Rathausstraße 5 gelegene Objekt - auf dem Gutenbergplatz befand sich bis zur Einweihung des neuen Rathaus das als Rathaus dienende [[Rathaus Herne (1897-1912)|Schulgebäude]] - wurde 1906 von: Ingenieur Oskar Nölle, Schreiner Franz Schulte, Lehrerin Margaretha Schultz, Elektromonteur Johann Niehüser, Hülfsarbeiter Karl Röhl sen., Lehrling Karl Röhl jun. und dem Monteur Anton Josef Thuer bewohnt.&lt;br&gt;<br /> <br /> == Stadtbücherei ==<br /> Die Stadt Herne trat 1906 der überörtlichen „Gesellschaft für Verbreitung von Volksbildung“ bei und erhielt dadurch außer laufender Unterstützung gleich unentgeltlich einen Grundbestand an Büchern für rund 200 Mark. Erster „Büchereiverwalter“ wurde Oberlehrer Karl Bruno Haise&lt;ref&gt;* 4. Juni 1877. An der Schule von 1905-1908. Später am Realgymnasium Rummelsburg Vorpommern.&lt;/ref&gt; von der höheren Knabenschule. Eröffnet wurde die Bücherei am 1. April 1906 mit einem Bestand von 1000 Bänden in der 1. Etage dieses Hauses.
